Emerging Market Muscle
On a recent trip to Istanbul, I quickly learned that it is impossible to walk through the city without getting pitched. The capital of Turkey is known as a historic yet progressive place for commerce and opportunities abound. In the city markets, there are multiple layers of salesmen as they will cram themselves into any tight space that promises pedestrian traffic. Although the merchandise can range from global consumer staples to overpriced souvenirs and everything in between, the shops are united in that each one has a salesman waiting at the entrance ready and trained to attract tourists.
