Extended Warranty on the Market
A friend called me this week to discuss TVs, specifically my experience in using a TV on my porch. Several years ago we added a screened porch off the back of our home and I can attest that few things beat sitting on that porch with a fire going watching a football game. My friend was curious to know if the moisture and humidity had affected the performance of the TV. I said that, other than pollen management during the spring, I had no problems. He then asked about the value of an extended warranty given the more challenging conditions an outside piece of electronics might encounter. We generally reached the conclusion that given the ever spiraling downward prices of TVs that replacement would be cheaper. But these thoughts led us into a discussion of how the concept of an extended warranty could apply to the market.
