New Beginnings

We have exciting news to share. After 17 years in the same location, we have recently completed a move to new office space. Our new location is just across Peachtree Street at Midtown Plaza Two, Suite 1050.

The view from our new space is a little bit different. We now face more to the west than to the east. There are more windows and more natural light, which is refreshing. And the walk to MetroFresh for lunch is now a few steps shorter than it used to be.

While we were mostly happy in our original space, there was very limited ability to allow us to expand. Our need for more space provided the catalyst for us to explore options. We were fortunate to find a nearby space where we could enjoy a fresh start. Moving is never fun, but it gave us the opportunity to reimagine our work environment from scratch. With all the constraints of our old space removed, we were able to design our own space with a view toward the future. The result is a completely new layout, but with some familiar themes – a mix of the established and the future.

Moving is hard work, even if it is just across the street. The process required a lot of collaboration and teamwork, some of it spilling into late nights and weekends. Over the years, we have engaged in various team-building exercises. They were all fun in their own way, but moving presented a higher-order team-building experience.

Starting with a blank page presents its own challenges. Everything is in play. As Hemingway famously described, the blank page is like a “white bull,” threatening and menacing the matador/creator whose task is to create something meaningful out of nothing. Having a quick turn-around imposed an extra dimension to the project. We rose to the challenge and finished the project on time and within budget, no small accomplishment given the number of variables and bureaucratic landmines to navigate.

We still have some settling in to do, and there are a few things here and there remaining to be accomplished. Some of the artwork hasn’t yet reached its final placement, and residual organizing is still taking place. But the quality of coffee is higher than it was before, and filtered water is cold, quick, and easily available, unlike before.

We held a company lunch last week to celebrate our progress. It was nice to have enough space for everyone to gather and participate as one big group. We have come a long way over the past 17 years. Working through a challenging project like this has brought us closer together as a team, and we look forward to answering the challenges that lie ahead.
